5 Christmas Holiday Date Ideas

by nick

Christmas is one of the most romantic times of year, so take advantage of the festive season with these five date ideas.

View the Christmas Lights

Find your nearest neighbourhood hotspot for Christmas light decorations. Some areas  go all-out, competing to which house can create the most impressive display in an unspoken effort to outdo each other. Map out your route and head out of town for an evening and drive around residential neighbourhoods, looking for the best light display. Get into the festive spirit by creating a Christmas music mix tape that you and your date can sing along to whilst driving around. If you’re in New York this Christmas, be sure to visit Dyker Heights, an Italian-American neighbourhood in Brooklyn. Here you’ll find some of the most extravagant Christmas light displays that you’re ever likely to see.

Also make sure you check out one of the many public light displays that are normally put on in parks and shopping malls. For example, London, Hyde Park has its own Winter Wonderland every year including rides and Christmas markets. Check your local papers and the internet to find out what’s happening near you. And try to go during the week as they can be especially overcrowded on the weekends.

Ice Skating

The holiday season is the perfect time for ice skating dates and heading to the nearest city, where outdoor skating rinks often play Christmas music accompanied by lights, decorations and trees.  Giving you the excuse to touch each other, through holding hands or by helping each other from ‘accidently’ falling over; you’ll have plenty of opportunities to intensify the physical and emotional bond with your date, without it feeling inappropriate or awkward. If you have an outdoor ice skating rink near you, take advantage of it and embrace the holiday ambiance while you glide through the winter air hand-in-hand.

Christmas Movie Night

If the weather outside is frightful, stay in and watch some classic Christmas movies together. Rent or buy a collection of your favourite Christmas flicks, make some hot mulled wine, and snuggle up next to each other under a blanket by a warm fire for hours of Christmas movie magic. Need some help on which Christmas movies to watch? Here’s a list of some of my favourites.

  • Elf
  • Home Alone 1 & 2
  • White Christmas
  • Miracle on 34th Street
  • Die Hard 1 & 2
  • It’s a Wonderful Life
  • The Santa Clause
  • Scrooged
  • A Christmas Story
  • The Bishops Wife

Decorate the Christmas Tree

Start the date by taking a trip with your special someone to a tree farm to pick out and cut down your very own Christmas tree. When you get home with your tree, play some of your favourite Christmas music, sip some apple cider and start decorating. Share some childhood memories you have of Christmas with your date. She’ll think you’re cute. Be playful and tease her by putting tinsel on her head when she isn’t looking.

Christmas Shopping

A lot of people think that Christmas has become too commercialised over the last few decades, and maybe this is true, but it’s okay to take timeout and enjoy giving and receiving this time of year. Buying gifts for family and friends amongst the festive atmosphere, store displays, and holiday music gets me right into the Christmas spirit. And as you and your date probably have some Christmas shopping to do, why not do it together? You can help each other pick presents for your loved ones while taking in all the joy and excitement of the festive season.
