If you live in a country like the UK, you’ll understand the importance of wearing a scarf in the winter months.
In the winter time, you’re probably going to be wearing the same couple of coats throughout the whole season. Wearing a scarf will add a strong element of style and variety, not to mention the functional aspect of keeping a man’s neck warm.
One question men often ask is, “What’s the best way to tie a scarf?”
There are many ways you can wear a scarf. Most men wear a scarf by just throwing it over themselves; however, with a little attention to detail, you can stand out and take your look to the next level.
With this in mind, it’s time to learn how to wear a scarf correctly. The most practical ways will only take you a few minutes to learn. Others will take no effort at all.
How to Tie a Scarf
Here are different ways to wear a scarf. I’ve also included some excellent illustrations courtesy of fashionbeans.com to help you:
The Ascot Knot
1) Let the middle of the scarf fall on the back of your neck with equal length on both sides.
2) Take one end (a) of the scarf and bring it over the other side (b).
3) Bring (a) upwards through the gap created.
4) Pull through (a) and adjust both ends equally facing downwards.
The Twice Around Ascot
1) Wrap one end of the scarf (a) around your neck once and back to the starting position.
2) Take the same end (a), and form a knot in exactly the same way as The Ascot Knot above, and adjust both ends equally facing downwards.
The Parisian Knot
1) Fold the scarf exactly in half and then let the scarf dangle around your neck with the hoop on one side of the shoulder.
2) Take the scarf ends (a & b) and pull them through the loop.
3) Pull the scarf ends and tighten the loop and adjust until comfortable.
The Fake Knot
1) Make a knot at one end of the scarf (a).
2) Pull the other end of the scarf through the knot you made (b through a).
3) Tighten the knot to create a fake knot and complete the look.
The Four in a Hand Knot
1) Drape the scarf over your neck with one end (a) slightly longer than the other (b). Bring the shorter side (b) over the longer side (a).
2) Bring the longer side (a) up and back across the shorter side (b).
3) Bring the longer side (a) up and through the gap created (between your neck and scarf).
4) Pull the longer side (a) downwards through the knot and softly tighten.
5) Adjust the knot position by pulling the shorter side (b) until it’s comfortable.
Simple Ways to Wear a Scarf
The Drape – Simply drape the scarf around your neck and the front of your chest under your overcoat. No actual tying is needed so it’s a loose way of wearing a scarf meant for more decoration rather than warmth.
The Once Around – Take the scarf and wrap it once around your neck, leaving the two ends hanging in the front.
The Twice Around – This one is easy; place the scarf around your neck so that the two ends are at your back, cross the ends at the back and bring them to the front. This way is great when wearing a casual outfit.
The Toss – Drape the full length of the scarf around your neck with one side hanging about 12 inches more than the other. Then take the long end and cross it over your neck, tossing it behind you and over the opposite shoulder.
